The Jersey City Medical Center Experience

Memoir: Jersey City Medical –Travel Experience from January to April 2025

Jersey City Medical was a terrible travel experience. I tried to find one positive thing during my four months there, and it was that they had a very nice group of young nurses. It’s always refreshing to see young women in the field.

But I was on 7E. They were never nice to travelers, I learned this on day one. They were indifferent, to say the least. I have never had so many shifts canceled as I did there, and at one point I floated four shifts in a row. That gives you a picture of how terrible they were to travelers. Assignments were never fair.

I met two other travelers: one had her last shift canceled, and another was renewed but later terminated. The manager was unfriendly, and the unit culture was shaped by her. She was on vacation when I started, so I didn’t meet her until my second week. My first encounter with her wasn’t an introduction but micromanagement. That drove me to the edge, and everything after that went downhill.

Overall, it was just an awful experience. They are a trauma center with a good rating, but for me it was terrible. Most travelers are afraid to talk about their experiences, but sharing them helps others learn.

When you’re a traveler, most places don’t care about you. They know you’re temporary and soon gone. They usually don’t care to know you or connect with you whatsoever. In this profession, that is a tragedy.

Please learn from this. It’s a first-hand, raw experience, no pretense.
