Story Time: A Journey Through Education

Once upon a time, my father lost his job in Tamale, Ghana. With no other choice, we moved to my uncle’s place in Wenchi Congo. Life there was difficult. My two sisters and I had no access to school, and the village affected us in many negative ways.

Eventually, my mother came for us. She took us first to Subinso, then Wenchi, then Sunyani, and finally to Kumasi. It was in Kumasi that my hunger for education truly began. I remember children playing with me during the day, only for morning to come and they would all go off to school—while I stayed behind. We simply didn’t have the opportunity.

That is why, not too long ago, I wrote that I almost didn’t go to school. Yet, years later, I look back and feel blessed that I eventually did. Today, I am a college graduate with employment opportunities before me.

But I carry a promise I made to myself long ago: I will never miss the chance to continue learning and educating myself. For that, I am deeply grateful. Education opened my eyes, sharpened my discernment, and gave me the ability to see through the lies and propaganda that flood our world today.

That is my story, and I am proud of it.
